Crowdfarming is a great way to help small direct producers and olive farming. Bottom-up collective financing is indeed the new frontier of conscious consumption to support agriculture and, in our case, micro-olive growing in Tuscany
By micro-olive growing we mean very small scale companies, just like us in the Oliveta della Torre, who have limited plots of land (5-10 acres) and to whom the oil produced makes it possible to obtain very narrow margins and in any case not sufficient to invest in the modernisation of plants and/or in new cultivation techniques. This discourages and increasingly pushes farmers to abandon olive groves. Unfortunately, the phenomenon is much more serious than we think.
It is a real pity because the Tuscan oil, which already contributes only 3% of the Italian olive oil production today, is destined to decrease further. Not to mention that, famous all over the world for its valuable organoleptic characteristics, Tuscan olive oil will also be increasingly subject to commercial fraud.
With our crowdfarming initiative you have the opportunity to get us a direct help in olive farming.
Adopt A Tuscan Olive Tree
Adopting one of our olive trees costs 60 euros per year. This amount will be used to nurture and maintain the tree through cultivation practices such as pruning, harrowing and fertilising. Not only that. The cost includes the production and sending of a personal photo-certificate with the name chosen for the adoptive tree. We will also affix a handmade name plate to the tree, which will remain on it forever.
The following year you can renew the certificate, or choose to adopt a second tree, and so on. Those who renew their adoption for at least five years, but also those who adopt five olive trees in the same year, will be presented with 3 litres of oil with a special personalised and geolocalised label.
There are those who dedicate an olive tree to his wife or her husband, who baptise it with the name of their newborn child. There are also those who dedicate it to a particularly beautiful and significant experience of their lives. Here are some of our adopted olive trees.
In short, if you want to do a good deed to help small-scale farmers and olive growing in Tuscany, all you have to do is join our crowdfarming project. Contact us for further details.
